MAJOR BRASS WORK BY ARTHUR BLISS ARRANGED FOR BAND

Friday 6 April 2018

PHM Publishing is delighted to announce the release of a brass band arrangement of Greetings to a City, the most substantial fanfare composed by Sir Arthur Bliss during his years as Master of the Queen's Musick. In 1960 Bliss was commissioned by the American Wind Symphony to write a work for its brass section. He obliged with a 6 minute concert opener for double brass choir, full of characteristic fanfare, dance-like and melodic themes. This brilliant work has been performed and recorded by a nunber of famous brass band ensembles including the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble.

In 1992, Paul Hindmarsh adapted it, with permission, for Grimethorpe Collioery Band (Frank Renton) to perform at the BBC Festival of Brass. This version has now been revised and published under license (from copyright holder Robert King/Music Sales) in advance of a recording by Brighouse and Rastrick Band, conducted by David Thornton.

Score and parts can be purchased directly from the online shop on www.paulhindmarsh.com, through www.justmusicuk.com or www.worldofbrass.com
